TERRACARNE is a first study resulting from a two-week creative residency in the spaces of Dance Gallery in Perugia, the initial phase of the larger choreographic project COMMOSSE GEOGRAFIE.

This first chapter of research, conducted by choreographer Stefano Mazzotta, features 6 dancers who have passed through the training and residency spaces curated by Valentina Romito and Rita Petrone at the beginning of their thirty years of choreographic activity: Amina Amici, Cecilia Ventriglia, Chiara Michelini, Daria Menichetti, Eleonora Chiocchini, Sara Orselli.

The COMMOSSE GEOGRAFIE project focuses its narrative intent on the themes of time, memory and the relationship between body, memory and landscape, taking inspiration from philosophical and poetic works such as Gli spazi dell’anima by Lionello Sozzi and La terra wasteta by Thomas S. Eliot.

In this first scenic outcome, the choreographic research focused on the word “rooting”: what dynamics are triggered in the apparent immobility of waiting and staying; what and how many metamorphoses pass through us, informing and modifying internal and external landscapes. In this spatial dichotomy, the body, in its forms, contains and archives within itself, in its fullness and emptiness, memories and experiences of passing time. Dance becomes geography, substantiates its presence in the space and time of memory, multiplies its directions, questions the environment, revealing the illusion of the linearity of time and the predominance of the subject over events. From this process of immersion, a new world delicately emerges, reinvented and relived each time, a world that re-emerges from silence and inner invisibility.
