SYNOPSIS
Greetings from the Void is a choreographic project centred on emptiness: emptiness of meaning as an inescapable existential condition, but also as a fertile space in which to rediscover simplicity, poetry, and the sacredness of living. The scene unfolds within the time of waiting, suspended between what has just happened and what is yet to come. A few objects—a hanging lamp, a tilted table—become catalysts for an ecosystem of bodies, gestures, sounds, and light.
The choreography emerges from practices of instant composition, in which the everyday is suspended and transformed into a poetic landscape. Steps and touches generate sound that is recorded and processed in real time, layering itself into the sonic environment of the scene. Light shapes perception, alters gestures, and creates chromatic and temporal thresholds, transforming the present into suspended images. Within this rarefied space, emptiness ceases to alienate and becomes a ground for shared intimacy—a resonant place in which to reconnect with the poetic dimension of existence.
MACULA is an artistic research collective founded in 2021 through the meeting of Edoardo Sgambato and Priscilla Pizziol, with sound contributions by Walter Laureti since 2022. Working in the performing arts through a transdisciplinary approach, MACULA operates in a liminal zone between dance, theatre, visual arts, and somatic research.
The body is understood as sensitive, permeable, and vulnerable matter, oriented by perception. Choreography is conceived as an open, neuroplastic system of relations among bodies, objects, and space. Their first theatrical work, AMELIA (2023), supported by Zerogrammi, was selected by several platforms and festivals including Kilowatt, Ammutinamenti, and Aurillac. The project received the Cortoindanza Award for Choreographic Writing and was presented at the Vetrina della Giovane Danza d’Autore 2024. It also received recognition from the French company La Baraka within the Presente/Futuro festival, leading to a residency invitation at Chapelle Sainte Marie.
Since 2021, MACULA has been leading workshops for professionals and non-professionals alike, both in Italy and internationally.
