+ synopsis
ISOLE (Islands) is one of the constitutive chapters of the broader creative project Elegy of Lost Things (2018–2020). The action was conceived during the period of isolation caused by the international COVID-19 emergency, with the intention of continuing and deepening—despite the distances imposed—the complex creative process devoted to the construction of the characters of Elegy of Lost Things.
The state of quarantine forced upon the performers generated a condition of enforced solitude, a tangible sense of emptiness and precariousness, bringing their lived experience unexpectedly close to that of the poor and dispossessed figures described in Raul Brandão’s novel, from which the stage creation originates. We chose to gather this meaningful experience, to look at it closely, and to treasure it, transforming it into a carousel of moving images: a series of very short films that return, without interruption, small fragments of life. These micro-narratives gradually reveal the voids and desires of the characters inhabiting Elegy of Lost Things.
