For the Los Faunos Project, Lavanderia a Vapore experiments with a transnational working model by inviting Catalan choreographer and artist Quim Bigas Bassart to collaborate with NEST, the network of Turin-based production companies, involving teachers from local dance schools. Within a dynamic that combines the expansion of artistic imagination and reference aesthetics with strong territorial grounding, the project entrusted an international artist with the proposal of an inspirational vision centered on the figure of the Faun, and with its reinterpretation within the repertoire. This process is supported by creative tasks and choreographic scores designed to activate, within dance schools—among teachers and participants alike—a compositional and expressive capacity that goes beyond discipline-oriented training focused on perfect execution.

Building on the experience gained through the Swans Never Die project, carried out in collaboration with other Italian partners, the initiative starts from a reinvention of the repertoire around the figure of the Faun, chosen for its contemporary relevance and its rich range of interpretive perspectives. These include investigations into interspecies relations, hybridity and identity fluidity, non-conformity, the connection between bodily language and dance, and queerness understood in a broad sense—as the coexistence of complex and non-univocal elements—also applicable to the desire to facilitate the coming together of heterogeneous audiences and communities.

The final outcome of the process will be presented on April 28, 2024, in Turin, as part of the events organized for the International Dance Day, promoted by the International Dance Council (CID) of UNESCO.
