Luci di carni is a creation for five interpreters drawing on suggestions connected to the work of Michelangelo Merisi, universally known as Caravaggio.
Light. Shadow. And light again, light even in the shadow, through the volume of the bodies, their intensity and concrete reality.
Light in the history of forgotten bodies, common bodies, now in the limelight as they are.
Light and flesh, indeed.
Caravaggio begins his revolution in stillness and meditation. In his work, he brings the viewer closer, placing his subjects in a "non-place", from nowhere: the extreme evidence of what is depicted leaps into the foreground. It seems, at times, that they appear from the darkness of the scene.
Bodies “exist” and then fade off, only to appear again in their concreteness in a game of volumes, bare bodies, germinal flavors that cut, sway and seek in the drunken air to catch their own shameless nudity, moments that spread in risk and absence.
From a continuous and dense movement, dualities emerge and crop up, such as: animality and technique, ephemeral and seduction, light and shadow.
Beauty, language. Merisi's hands on the canvas: the body / hand, towards.
Those hands: I wish, I want to get them out of there.
The protagonists of Caravaggio’s canvas appear to us as much plastic and full of life, as mysterious and obscure the theatres of his personality remain for us.
