Carmen_Nous sommes toutes des étoiles develops at Lavanderia a Vapore through a dialogue among various actors rooted in the local territory—dance schools and participating artists foremost—together with choreographer Anna Basti, who acts as a catalyst for reflection on the meanings that great ballets and classical works have conveyed, and continue to convey, over time.

The project aims to imagine a rewriting of the work with groups of non-professionals or specific communities, questioning both the hierarchy of bodies expressed by classical ballet and the relational dynamics embedded in its narrative. By re-reading not only the ballet itself but also the figure of Carmen as an embodiment of the revolutionary power of the feminine—understood as a sensual, desiring, instinctual force—the project activates a process of rediscovery of the body’s and dance’s potential in relation to urgent contemporary issues.

These include questions of gender, patriarchy, and the relationship with what our society relegates to the margins and to alterity. Investigating the rewriting of the repertoire becomes a key strategy for transforming how young bodies in training perceive it: no longer as a static, dusty archive, but as a living and generative field of possibility. Together, the project seeks to produce new narratives capable of reconnecting these works with everyday life.

In this sense, the repertoire is used as a pretext to reflect on the contemporary condition through embodied practice—placing the body at the centre as a site of questioning, transformation, and shared meaning.
