OLTREMAI
+ synopsis
Labyrinths and ghosts carry us into imagined universes where mood and poetry alternate at a rapid pace. Stains, marks, and gestures—charged with a strong sense of spontaneity—reveal the murky landscapes of a dark fairy tale, freely inspired by the illustrated book of the same title by Lorenzo Mattotti.
A woman sits motionless. Her faint gestures trace a path that leaves the marks of a universe suspended between reality and dream, unfolding a narrative that delves into the memory of the fairy tale. Symbols and images emerge, where light and darkness play leading roles. Her story is a noir coming-of-age tale dedicated to doubt and uncertainty, in which the essential quality of gesture and a limited palette of pastel colours prevail. Everything speaks of precariousness: weight, balance, risk, dualistic conflict, and the inescapable desire for an unattainable, unified harmony.
As in every tale of growth, the narrative insists and returns to the dynamics generated by questioning and by the longing for balance—when faced with obstacles, trials to be overcome, the search for a safe place and an order to be conquered. Abandoning the presumed certainty of a centre, the story plunges into the precariousness of movement, into the pursuit of a temporary refuge and a plausible order, ultimately restoring the only certainty possible: that nothing ever remains the same, and that the condition of questioning is the only path toward growth, change, and discovery.
