The values of sport as a “place of democracy” are ideals to strive for in everyday life as well—from school to work, from leisure to politics. Sport has a dynamic, exchange-based structure: a realm in which we can step away from our usual roles and express our identities, including their most emotional aspects.

A team inevitably confronts issues such as sharing, respect for differences, collective and individual responsibility, and fairness.

FUORIGIOCO (Offside) is a slice of everyday life that dresses the familiar dynamics of a “team” in humour, revealing its limits, flaws and undeniable virtues. It conveys the truth that unity is strength—the principle that ensures the effectiveness of any human collective. Yet this is a truth seldom applied to the dynamics governing contemporary society, which is increasingly and wearily solitary rather than cohesive and organised.

The protagonists of this work are timeless, eccentric characters: suspended and disordered, fragile and in search of a balance that, unbeknown to them, might still arrive. It is always a precarious, elusive balance, driving them to imagine, seek out and rearrange ever-new ways of living together—to deceive or resist the forces pulling them apart, and to try to win.
